📍 Where is Lago di Braies?
Lago di Braies (also called Pragser Wildsee in German) is located in South Tyrol, northern Italy, in the heart of the Fanes–Sennes–Braies Natural Park, at an altitude of 1,496 meters. It belongs to the province of Bolzano and is part of the larger Dolomiti UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Lago di Braies owes its surreal emerald-turquoise color to its glacial origin. Fine rock particles (called “glacial flour”) suspended in the water reflect sunlight in a way that creates that iconic milky blue hue. The lake is also surrounded by dolomitic limestone, which enhances the reflection and clarity.
⚠️ Important Info: Traffic Restrictions & Overcrowding
From July 10th to September 10th, the road to Lago di Braies is subject to ZTL (limited traffic zone) between 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM. Access is closed to private vehicles unless booked in advance with shuttle, bike, or hotel permit.
In summer, parking is very limited and often full by 8:30 AM. Tourists arrive in waves, and by midday the trails and boat pier are crowded.
